What’s changed in scocial media in february ?

There are two BIG updates that hit social media this week and are being rolled in February 2026.

You might have noticed two major changes on TikTok and Meta this week, updates that here at Neon Fizz, we know will have a real impact for businesses and many brands.

1. TikTok introduces a Local tab

This is a game changer for businesses targeting nearby audiences. Making sure you add a location, whether that’s Dundee, Glasgow or London to your posts gives your content a better chance of showing up in the Local tab, helping people in your area discover you. A simple step that helps your content reach local audiences who matter most.

2. Meta introduces a paid ad free option

Now onto the news that’s not so positive for businesses running Meta ads. Many of you will have opened a Meta app this week and been faced with the ultimatum: pay £3.99 to remove ads or stick with the free ad supported version.

That could mean fewer eyes on your ads. At Neon Fizz, we’re reminding our digital marketing clients not put all their eggs in one basket. We recommend make sure you’re reaching your audience in other meaninful ways too, through activity like PR or newsletters.

If you’re looking to shake up your PR and digital marketing strategy or need a bit of guidance, get in touch with the Neon Fizz team.
